“I stood on a hill made of trash in a slum in Kenya and I was heartbroken for the women desperate for work. I knew I had to do something.” Kristen Welch, blogger and author came back to Montgomery County after her life-changing trip overseas in 2010 and started Mercy House Global with her family.
The non-profit funds two maternal rescue centers in Kenya, where more than 40 teen moms have had their babies. Mercy House Global also operates an online fair trade store, manages several fair trade subscription clubs with thousands of members, and maintains two retail stores in the area. All of these outlets come back to one mission- to empower women and provide dignified work in 31 countries.
We recently had the pleasure of visiting our beautiful friend, who lives in Houston as a refugee. She moved to Nepal when she was 11 and lived in a refugee camp for 20 years. Her family moved to Houston in 2012, and we are grateful to be friends.
She assembles embroidery hoops and necklaces for Mercy House Global. These are available for purchase now in our store.
She shared her testimony with us and we are excited to share it with you soon. We are praising Jesus for this beautiful friend who is so passionate about the Gospel.
Come join Mercy House Global and be a world changer! Whether you are looking for a place to volunteer or wanting to purchase with purpose, Mercy House is the perfect community for you! Find us on Instagram or Facebook, or check out our website MercyHouseGlobal.org for more information.
